Turtle Hunt is the 15th episode of Series 9. It was written by Simon Nicholson.
Plot[]
The plot revolves around the rare sighting of a large leatherback sea turtle off the coast of Pontypandy. The episode begins with excitement over the turtle's appearance. Fireman Sam and the new coastguard, Ben Hooper, set out on the rescue boat Neptune to find the creature and attach a special camera to its shell for marine study.
Meanwhile, Mandy Flood, who missed her chance to go on the official turtle-spotting trip, is determined to see the turtle herself. She persuades Norman Price to join her, and they take a small rowboat out into the sea alone, ignoring safety precautions. Back at the Ocean Rescue Centre, the team is monitoring the footage from the camera they successfully attached to the turtle. Suddenly, they are alarmed to see Mandy and Norman's small boat in the camera's view, struggling in the increasingly rough sea conditions.
The Fireman Sam team springs into action, using the turtle's camera to locate the children. They quickly launch a rescue operation and manage to reach Mandy and Norman just in time, saving them before their small boat is dashed against the rocks. The incident highlights the dangers of going out to sea unprepared and alone.
