The seventh series of Fireman Sam premiered from 11 February to 22 December 2009 in the UK, and from 23 April to 11 June 2015 in the US.

Production[]

Series 7 was originally going to be apart of Series 6, making it a 52 episode long series, but on 25 October 2007, HiT announced that the CGI series would be produced as two series, making up Series 6 and 7.[1]

The British Terrestrial rights to Series 6 and 7 were purchased by CITV & GMTV in July 2009 for airing in the Autumn on the stand's The Fluffy Club block.[2]

The move to CGI also introduced a range of new production possibilities, leading to the expansion of the show's world and characters. Series 7 was originally planned to be a part of Series 6 but was split into two seasons by HiT Entertainment in 2007. The new animation style facilitated the introduction of new characters, such as the Australian helicopter pilot Tom Thomas and the Flood family—Mike the plumber, Helen the nurse, and their daughter Mandy. The new CGI models featured more detailed and expressive character designs compared to their stop-motion predecessors, and new vehicles and locations were added to the town of Pontypandy.

The production of Series 7 is also notable for the evolution of its storytelling, with the new format allowing for more complex and visually ambitious narratives. For example, the episode plots could feature larger-scale events and a wider range of locations, such as seaside and mountain settings, all rendered in the more flexible CGI format. The narratives often centered on the antics of the expanded cast and the predicaments caused by more mischievous versions of existing characters, like Norman Price.

Overall, the production of Fireman Sam Series 7 represents a major turning point in the series, both technically and narratively. By embracing CGI, the show's producers revitalized the franchise with a contemporary look and feel, expanding its character roster and setting the stage for future seasons. While it was a controversial change for some long-time viewers, the production update was a strategic decision to appeal to modern audiences and ensure the show's longevity in a rapidly changing children's media landscape.
