Paper Plane Down is the first episode of the sixth series. It was written by Andrew Brenner.

Plot[]

Norman is making Paper Aeroplanes in his room just as Fireman Sam and Station Officer Steele arrive at the Cut Price Store to test the smoke alarm. He asks Sam to watch, but Steele replies saying that Sam is busy because of it being Fire Prevention Day, with Sam repling that he will watch another time.

In the store, Steele is talking to Dilys about Fire Prevention Day, while Sam tests the smoke alarm. Dilys freaks out at the sound while Sam explains about the sound is coming from the alarm, all while a paper aeroplane flies around them, hitting Dilys' hair, causing her to freak out further thinking that it's a bat. Steele notices it came from Norman; who hides, while he retreives the plane. Steele is interested and calls the plane a "beauty". Dilys thinks he is complimenting her, but Steele blushes bright pink trying to explain that he was referring to the plane. Sam and Steele are about to test the fire exit next, but Norman runs out of it in a hurry believing Steele isn't any fun at all, with Sam saying that the exit has been tested perfectly. After Sam tells Dilys about some boxes being a fire hazard, Dilys asks them for a cup of tea but Steele says that they need to get going as they have a lot of calls to make.

At Mike Flood's workshop, Norman throws a paper aeroplane at Mike, who hammers his thumb. He wonders where the plane came from, but Steele catches Norman again, who escapes. Norman soon finds himself at the Fire Station in a huff, believing that it's "Follow Norman Price Day", and knowing that he won't catch himself being near Steele there. He heads into his office and folds some papers into paper aeroplanes. Upstairs, Elvis is cooking stew for lunch while singing a song. Norman throws a plane, but it lands next to the pan. Elvis notices and Norman tells him that he wanted to show him cool, but Elvis believes he is wanting the stew and throws him out. Elvis goes back to put the food into the pan, and turns it on and begins to set alight. Norman returns back into Steele's office.

Sam and Steele return, with Elvis saying that he put the stew on to simmer and that it would be ready in an hour. After that, he returns to his office and catches Norman in there. Norman escapes again, all while the stew lights up in flames. Norman sees Sam who asks him how his paper aeroplanes are, to which Norman replies that nobody likes Paper Aeroplanes except him. Sam soon hears a faint "thud", and wonders where it's coming from, in reality it's Steele playing with one of Norman's Aeroplanes.

As Elvis returns to the kitchen, his stew has become a great ball of fire. In a panic, he calls the fire service! Steele reads the message on the teleprinter twice, and thinks "Oh I say...", all while Elvis tells Sam that the fire is in the kitchen. Sam grabs his breathing apperatus and after Elvis turns off the gas, the fire is put out and the stew has burnt out. Steele scolds Elvis for the fire and the fact that there was an extquinisher right next to the fire exit, to which Elvis admits he paniced over it and didn't know how it started. They soon notice a paper aeroplane, and Elvis assumes Steele started it judging by it being a letter to him, but Steele knows that it was actually Norman. Norman admits that it was an accident and wanted to find someone to liked paper aeroplanes like he does. Steele then tells Sam and Elvis that he will have a word with Norman. Elvis hopes Steele won't be too hard on him, but Sam knows they will have a happy understanding.

Back in his office, Steele teaches Norman the proper way to fly paper aeroplanes, showcasing him tricks like loop-the-loops and barrel rolls. Norman is impressed, and continue on as the episode ends.
