Flat Tyre, retitled Flat Tire for some American releases, is the fourth episode of the first series of Fireman Sam.

Plot[]

The central plot revolves around Trevor Evans' bus experiencing a flat tyre, leading to a series of comedic delays and a runaway spare tyre. Trevor has been to a sale in Newtown and is running late to pick up the local residents waiting at the bus stop with their purchases. When he gets a flat tyre, he realizes he doesn't have a jack to change it. Fireman Sam arrives to help Trevor with the replacement tyre.

As Sam is fitting the new tyre, it rolls away, traveling all over Pontypandy and causing minor chaos and further delays. While the spare tyre is rolling around town, Sam has to pick up the waiting passengers and take them home in the fire engine.

This makes him even later for his other task: picking up Station Officer Steele's new chair. The episode ends with the situation resolved, highlighting Sam's helpful nature, even on his day off, and the everyday mishaps in Pontypandy.

Trivia[]

  • Stock footage from Barn Fire is used, as is extended stock footage from The Kite.
  • This is the first episode to feature Trevor's Bus having an accident.
  • This is one of a few episodes to feature Jupiter's old two-tone horns.
  • This is to date the only episode where the fire service is not required for an emergency of any kind.
    • Trevor's Training, Lost in the Fog and Bentley the Robot do not count in this matter, since an emergency does happen. The only reason the fire brigade is not called out in these three episodes is because they were in the area, and were subsequently already on hand to help. Similarly, Sam's Day Off and Halloween are not to be included, since both featured the fire service being called out to potentially dangerous situations.
  • The teddy Sarah was holding was reused from the "Rocky Hollow" episode "Camping".
  • Recording date: January 29, 1985 and March 23, 1987.

Goofs[]

  • Dilys should have been wearing shoes instead of slippers whilst she was out with Sarah, James and Norman.
